Small to Medium Businesses (SMB) are up against it when it comes to cybersecurity, ransomware and cyber insurance. Plenty of research has shown that they invariably cannot afford the CAPEX and OPEX to meet cybersecurity standards in full, cannot afford ransomware payments and understandably the cyber insurance market has struggled to underwrite and manage the risk.

Yet SMBs account for over 95% (by volume) of companies in most western economies, and are a significant percentage of the companies large business rely upon to deliver products, services and innovation.

Small business is the soft under belly of our economies and needs the most help to comply to cybersecurity risk management. Requiring radical thinking and bold cybersecurity strategy – community cloud; controls inheritance; regulated oversight, assurance and POAMs; focus on high and medium risks accepting that not everything can be protected.
