Cyber regulation in the EU, APAC and U.S has common themes. One theme is management oversight, assurance and responsibility. In some instances requiring board members to report their cybersecurity expertise to regulators.

Cyber regulation is moving to risk management, requiring an enterprise wide approach to cybersecurity that is aligned to risk. Risks that impact all data classes across an enterprise. If U.S, EU and APAC cyber regulation land it will have a significant impact in the board room. Boards will have to report their cyber skills and experience, the organisations cybersecurity risk management frameworks, policies and procedures, their compliance of cyber risk management and cyber incidents.

Increasing the burden on boards at a time when there is a significant short fall in experienced cyber resources, a rise in the complexity, severity and frequency of cyber attacks, and rising cyber compliance costs.
