Call us now:
This advisory from the US Cybersecurity Infrastructure Security Agency makes it abundantly clear that all sides have to be careful about escalating a cyberwar. Russian actors are already inside networks and one can only assume the same is true for Nation-state actors on all sides.
We see time and time again that with complex networks, cyber actors once inside are difficult to find, backdoors are easy to create, hide and exploit by hackers. For CNI the very real concern is the bridge between IT and OT, where IT meets the real world. You start playing with PLCs, things change very quickly.
Stuxnet, were hackers make small incremental changes to damage equipment is old school. As a former PLC and SCADA programmer significant real world damage is caused very quickly. All that has prevented it taking place so far is the crossing of the red-line, that the current conflict now provides.
