Cyber is a significant material risk and a major concern to investors, so this is a very useful read from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on Economic, Social and Governance (ESG) exposure reporting. It sounds a very boring and benign subject but it is not, this is worth a read if you are US listed. It demystifies material reporting requirements to the SEC over ESG and its legal obligations.

The speech articulates why as a member of the board of a listed US company and more specifically a CISO, material reporting is important for shareholders and investors and ultimately market confidence.

One can assume that given the request from the Cybersecurity Solarium Commission in 2020 to the SEC relating to SoX the recent cyber incidents and Executive Orders. The SEC will be looking at how best to shore up market confidence over material risk reporting.
