The signing this week of the President’s Executive Order (EO) on ‘Improving the Nation’s Cybersecurity’ sets out 30 – 120 day reviews for recommendations on improving US Federal cyber security. In addition to the EO signed in February 2021 on ‘America’s Supply Chains’.

We depend upon cyberspace for the delivery of products and services, social media, mobile communications. An unregulated utility at point of delivery which is clearly vulnerable. Nation states use cyber as a Geopolitical weapon, building offensive cyber capabilities. But very few nations have created an effective defensive public and private sector strategy and policy.

Many sectors are regulated. Sectors providing CNI, healthcare, food production, defence, telecommunications and media. Given our dependence on cyberspace as a utility and its vulnerability to cyberattack. Do governments need to consider defensive public and private sector cyber regulation to ensure that appropriate cybersecurity is implemented? Israel has developed such a defensive cyber strategy for its public and private sector.
