Thank you for sharing Andrew Robinson. A great article on why the US is finding the adoption of defensive cyber security difficult. Discussing the view of the historical mission of Nation state offensive cyber over defensive and the opinion that this has left the country more vulnerable rather than less in recent times.
In my view you, there comes a time when everyone is looking at everyone else’s secret and the only way to prevent this, like it or not. Is to put up the walls around the fort. An old friend from the security services once told me, when I asked how do you protect National Secrets and they said ‘if it was that important we’d write it down on a piece of paper, that way we know it was secure’. Whilst the world has moved on and this is not practical, the sentiment probably remains.
This is an issue all governments face, are there any alternatives to building bigger and stronger walls, given the digitally connected society we live in?
