A great article to understand Chinas approach to cyber security, data, and the role of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) as the ‘leader of everything’. Who has the stated aim of leading economic development, and data has become key to the country’s economic success. In the digital revolution data is the main currency and the CCP has recognised this from domestic surveillance and IP acquired from other Nation States.
Foreign companies who may have been able to prevent Chinese state intervention, could fall foul of Chinese cybersecurity laws. Which apply to all individuals and entities regardless of ownership or nationality. Nearly everyone has to use Chinese infrastructure to conduct business and data can be intercepted by the Chinese government.
This has clearly put China and the US at odds. The US has changed it’s stance on cybersecurity, significantly beefing up its own cyber security regulations and restricted Chinese investment. Maybe to little to late, IP has already left the country.
The direction of travel has been set for international data security and regulation.
