Thanks for sharing this John Weiler CMMC it’s one of those legislative changes which goes under the radar yet is very significant. It raises 2 points for me, the first is one of Government interference in the commercial operations of Internet, communications and critical infrastructure providers. The second is that the internet and critical infrastructure forms the foundation of how we live our lives today. Underpinning many of the products and service we depend upon and Government has the responsibility to ensure that we are all kept safe.

With the backdrop of cyber attacks on State Municipal services the legislation empowers CISA to issue subpoenas to internet service providers. Compelling them to release information on cyber vulnerabilities detected on the networks of critical infrastructure organisations. An example of Government intervening in Commercial operations. Whilst making it clear that CNI providers have an obligation to secure their operations.

Legislation also pushed through at the same time establishes funded cyber security coordinators in each state. Enabling better coordination of cyber activities between states and federal government. All of which is another example of how seriously the US is taking the threat of cyber.
