The SECs Office of Compliance Inspections and Examinations (OCIE) issued a risk alert to all participants in financial service markets, specially focusing on ransomware. Recommending that organisations pay attention to alerts from the Department of Homeland Security Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA).
The guidance identifies a number of recommendations including incident response, vulnerability and patch management, access management, perimeter security, awareness training, backup and restore and operational resilience.
In itself the recommendation is not unusual. However it comes from the SEC, which increases its importance. Guidance such as this is important for many other industry sectors, as ransomware is not market specific.
