GoDaddy announced this week that it identified a security breach on the 23rd of April, which may have occurred in October 2019. The breach targeted hosting account credentials, and whilst there’s no information on the number of account impacted, GoDaddy is thought to be the worlds largest domain registrar provider with 19Mn customers.
It raises a question, if the hosting account has been compromised, could an attacker make changes to the website which is hosted using the service? The letter to customer states that ‘there is no evidence that files were added or changed on your account’. To be really sure nothing has changed, correlational with network and account logs, a password change and a more in depth audit of site code, databases and email accounts maybe required.
