The escalation in tensions between the US and Iran sees its first open use of cyber. With reports that the website of a US government agency has been hacked by a group purported to be supporting the Iran state. And the Department for Homeland Security has issued a terrorism threat advisory, warning of cyber attacks. Which has to be one of a few occasions in recent years where this has happened. Whist the Iranians do not have the conventional military power of the US. They do have the cyber muscle. A big issue for the US will be cause celebre created. Attacks from pro Iranian hackers who may already be within the US and those sympathizers to the Iranian cause outside. In addition to those hackers outside the US who simply will have a go at attacking US interests electronically. The US attack surface is huge.

The cyber issues US municipalities and government agencies have faced recently, highlight the cyber maturity of government services.
