Ransomware has to be one of the worst forms of cyber attack, especially if you are a small firm. You could say that all the data should be backed up, that contingency plans should be in place. But lets face it, when governments have to bring in consultation papers to get banks to prove that they are resilient, the small guys won’t be pressing ahead with security and resiliency.
You could rightly argue that the companies board were at fault for not ensuring that the business was secure and resilient. But there are 300 people that have been directly impacted by ransomware who don’t look like they will have a job to go back to in 2020.
It’s not an isolated case and won’t be into 2020, but lets hope that it serves as a warning to everyone that it’s a very serious issue, with dire consequences.
