A great article to reflect on for 2020 and some choice books to add to your must read list this year. The world of statecraft is not what it used to be, it’s no longer just a case of who’s got the fastest ICBM or the biggest stockpile of nuclear weapons.

Nope, as predicted geopolitical cyber is on the up. 2020 could be a year in which nation states kick off their cyber campaigns. Where the winner will be the one with the biggest group of hackers, the loser the country with the worst cyber posture and unlike conventional war this will depend upon public and private intervention. It’s going to be fought on a level playing field where anyone can enter. You won’t need to enrich uranium, or have the technology to build delivery vehicles. Size won’t matter, small is equally as deadly as big. The chances of being caught are remote and consequences are negligible.

So a thought for 2020. As the geopolitical cyber arena develops, no matter if you’re public or private, get your cyber posture reviewed, risk assessed and mitigated. 70% of cyber attacks can be prevented through basic cyber hygiene.
