The aim of good governance is to support decision makers see through complexity and make better decisions. But has our creation of a data dependent society created a problem of complexity?

To govern effectively the mass of data and information needs to be simplified, cause and event relationships need to be understood. E.g. If I push this button, I expect this outcome.

But with the growth in technology, digital and data dependency are we now at a point where there’s to much information and data available to decision makers, leading to poorer decision making?

This is the case for cyber security, the need for cyber security has grown out of the data revolution. But is an enterprise wide risk like cyber hindered by organisational, data, regulatory and financial complexity. Are decision makers equipped to sift through the mass of data and make quality decisions, or is it a case of information overload?

Our challenge for 2020 is to start to simplify the cyber and data debate, to be able to support our decision makers, make better, more informed decisions. Sorting out cause and event relationships and building better cyber governance.
