China is clearly a World Superpower, celebrating its 70th birthday; a country which has over 3 millennia of history. Its rise to be one of the top has not been by pure chance. It has invested heavily in a lot of Chinese tech. Alibaba is the world largest e-commerce retailer, China mobile the worlds largest mobile phone operator and the country is well known for the use of facial recognition to track its citizens.

But should we be afraid? It is widely claimed that the Chinese have been been intercepting western IP. Be it to build their latest passenger planes, or military hardware and the west has given most of it away. Through poor security within its organisations or universities.

China seeks recognition and to be honest its done a good job in using investment to improve the standards of living for its citizens. Whilst we may not agree with how its done it, and maybe to blame. You cannot fault the country.

The biggest issue we all now face is how to manage the relationship going forward. China needs the West and the West needs China. We better get our cyber security sorted out, as you can bet that the Chinese have invested more in their cyber than we have. Albeit a lot the tech is Western and the Chinese aren’t great innovators, yet and they play a very long game.
