Siemans the German industrial manufacturing company and the Ponemon institute have released a report on state of cyber security in the Utility industry.
It references a worstening state of cyber security across the Utility industry. With a significant number of respondents experiencing operational shutdowns, aided by nation states and concerns and the broader financial impact which cyber related power failures have on the wider community.
Respondents raised concerns that cyber presents a bigger threat for Operations IT than traditional IT systems. Given the critically of these systems and connection through SCADA, it raises questions over how utility firms secure the connectivity between PLCs, SCADA and business IT with 42% saying their cyber readiness was high.
