Cybersecurity and AI change everything when you consider National Security.

Cybersecurity and AI change everything when you consider National Security. The US government has regulated cybersecurity under its DFARS 7021 program, which affects all United States Department of War contractors globally. The EU has regulated AI.

Advances in AI are driving cybersecurity risk at an unprecedented rate, while many companies cannot and do not manage their most basic level of cybersecurity. The US DoD program for cyber has a direct effect on export control regimes, as it requires national and international defence contractors to secure CUI, and CUI is a data class that forms part of ITAR. Yet many firms are ignoring US Cyber rules and, as a consequence, ITAR requirements to secure data.

As this article points out, South Korean companies need to better relationships with their US customers. They need to implement better governance and oversight of export controls and build an appropriate compliance architecture to handle export-controlled technologies and technical data as AI technologies develop and increase national security risk.

South Korean Defence Contractors are, after all, affected by both ITAR and DFARS regulations.
