Excellent article Michael G. Jacobides.

AI is going to have a profound effect on our work and social lives. One only has to read the recent US and Chinese AI action plans to realize that AI is lining up geopolitically and where geopolitics goes, then corporates will surely follow.

AI is a powerful tool, but it’s still in its infancy. Its strengths today lie in consuming general data and reasoning responses on what is in general knowledge. Where it struggles, and where industry struggles in using AI, is where there’s gaps in Gen AIs knowledge. There’s allot of discussion about how AI is going to replace consultants, which may tell us allot about the cost value curve for consultancy. But AI struggles with more complex tasks, tasks that require domain knowledge that comes with both professional skill and experience.

But AI is heading in that direction. Our work at Aegis Labs, developing domain specific AI for internal audit, demonstrates the potential AI has to consume domain specific knowledge and automate a significant amount of the audit process for cybersecurity audits. Combining the professional knowledge and experience of the auditor, audit process and domain knowledge of cybersecurity. We use AI to evaluate compliance over cybersecurity risk management with a higher degree of accuracy, repeatability, reduced hallucinations and 80% faster than a human auditor
