Back in May 2025 the UK Ministry of Justice (MoJ), Legal Aid Agency (LAA) was hacked. Resulting in a significant amount of data being taken from Legal Aid systems.

The hack affected its payment systems that are still out of action, affecting payments to Barristers. The hack has left the LAA going back to workarounds, paying Barristers the average of the previous 3 months.
If the LAA is having to rebuild its payments systems it does raise questions as to the severity of the hack.
