A warning of what happens when you pile into cybersecurity with an assumption that the public and private sector are the same animal and why delivering against promises is way, way harder in reality. Cybersecurity is one of those topics where you need executives that have cut their teeth on the ‘doing’. You wouldn’t have heart surgery if you knew the heart surgeon had watched allot of operations. But had no hands on experience built up over 20 years of practice.

Cybersecurity is a rather unique risk, one that is being regulated. Where demonstrating that you can use the scalpel is more important than demonstrating that you’ve watched the operations.

To quote Chris Inglis the inaugural U.S Director of the Office of the National Cyber Director – Market forces have failed to deliver cybersecurity, one wonders why?
