NHS hospitals and some GP surgeries in London have declared a critical incident, following a cyber attack on a third party service provider. Forcing the cancelation of operations.
Synnovis a provider of pathology services that is in partnership between SYNLAB UK & Ireland, Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, and King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust appears to have been hit with a ransomware. SYNLAB Italia is reported to have suffered a cyber attack by Blackbasta in April 2024 (Blackbasta operates a RaaS).
Health is CNI and it is well demonstrated that health CNI when targeted by a cyber attack it can have an effect on national security (U.S congressional committee – United Health May 2024). The effects of supply chain cyber attacks are well documented. In this case it appears to be having a serious effect on health services in and around London.
@Thaddeus Dziekanowski one has to ask the question. When will the UK start to adopt ‘Security First’ principles for CNI? Following the example of the U.S and EU in regulating cybersecurity risk management?
