Well worth a read. You couldn’t manage the message if you tired. At the same time that China unveils its Cyber Force (https://lnkd.in/eGNifHwx), the head of the FBI, Christopher Wray, makes it clear that Chinese Government poses a ‘Broad and Unrelenting’ Threat to U.S. Critical Infrastructure’.

Wray made clear that budgets need to be crafted to ensure that the resources U.S government needs is available to support public and private enterprise address cybersecurity. As China wants to prevent the U.S from being able to get in the way of a future crisis between China and Taiwan.

“The fact is, the PRC’s targeting of our critical infrastructure is both broad and unrelenting,” he said. And, he added, the immense size—and expanding nature—of the CCP’s hacking program isn’t just aimed at stealing American intellectual property. “It’s using that mass, those numbers, to give itself the ability to physically wreak havoc on our critical infrastructure at a time of its choosing,” he said.

The FBI alone cannot defend the U.S, nor can other nation state cyber agencies defend their CNI providers. Advisories are all well and good, but cybersecurity risk management requires effort from public and private sector industry. Resources, education and above all recognition that there is a problem that needs to be addressed. Resources, education and capabilities that are being driven in part by cyber regulation across the U.S and EU.
