An excellent article that explains the potential fall out of the Baltimore shipping incident, on the 26th of March. There is as yet no confirmation of how, why and what was the root cause of the incident. But the consequences of the incident on the U.S East Coast and further afield are unfolding, as the article discusses.
The bridge was critical national infrastructure and a single point of failure. Providing quick and easy access between the port infrastructure and U.S East Coast. The U.S auto industry relied on the Baltimore port for raw materials, shares in companies that relied on the port such as Consol energy as the bridge collapse will effect the coal terminal. The port is blocked off for the immediate future and the economic disruption along the East Cost are yet to be felt. The cost to insurers will be significant.
One waits to see how the consequences of this tragic event unfold.
