The issue is not one of ‘Has the EU left the UK behind on AI regulation’, the issue at hand is ‘Has the EU left the UK behind on Cybersecurity Risk Management regulation’, why?

You cannot and should not regulate AI without cybersecurity risk management regulation. AI and Cybersecurity risk management are not mutually exclusive capabilities. Not only for AI solutions that benefit economic growth, but also the AI that is being developed by cyber criminals and nation states to target the public and private sector. Both AI and Cybersecurity are issues for the insurance industry.

One would argue the biggest issue for the UK is that partner nations such as the EU, U.S and Australia are introducing cybersecurity risk management regulations that set baseline requirements for public and private sector boards to manage cybersecurity risk. Baselines that effect UK companies and their relationships with markets across the EU, U.S and Australia. One only has to read the SEC final cyber rule, EN NIS 2, DORA, the proposed EU CRA, U.S cyber mark and Australia’s cyber regulatory reforms to understand the challenges ahead.
