Starting this month the DoD IG is going to audit the CMMC program. This is an important audit given the impact of the program on the U.S Defense Industry Base (DIB).
Progress towards the implementation and oversight of DFARS 252.204 – 7012, 7019, 7020 and pending FAR ruling on 7021 has not been quick. At the same time the threat of cyber attacks has continued to increase. As highlighted by the GAO the DIB is a critical component of defense cybersecurity to which DFARS 7012 is a critical piece of regulation for securing the national and international DIB. The CMMC program is an important program, coming at a time with regulators such as the SEC are regulating registrants that include defense primes.
