Nagoya Port Authority has confirmed that the port has been targeted by a ransomware attack. The port is Japan’s largest by total cargo handling over 177 million tons, and a hub for handling some of Toyotas imports and exports.
The ransomware by LockBit 3 demonstrates the challenges that CNI such as ports and maritime logistics face, when confronted by cyber. Ports and other logistics hubs create supply chain bottlenecks, and likely supply chain risks for those reliant on imports and exports through the hubs. One must remember that 90% of global traded goods rely on the maritime sector.
One hopes that the port can resume operations on Thursday.
