The pace of change of cyber regulation in Australia is far greater than many other countries. Australia is introducing new legislation requiring the owners of critical national infrastructure systems to improve their cybersecurity.
The improvements to CNI regulation will no doubt be in line with those proposed by EU regulations under EN NIS 2.0 and planned improvements in the U.S, that are expected to be revealed under the White House ONCD strategy.
Cybersecurity is moving ‘Left of Bang’, creating a risk for board rooms to manage, in this case CNI providers. At a predicted cost of $9 AUS over 10 years it’s also expensive to manage at a time when there are a limited number of resources available to implement the necessary changes.
