The planned ONCD strategy will set the umbrella for cybersecurity regulation for the U.S. We have said for some time that market forces alone have not addressed the cybersecurity challenges we face. That we are at a pivot point where more ‘stick’ and less ‘carrot’ is needed to drive cybersecurity compliance.

However with over +95% of organisations being SMEs (the 95% problem) and less likely to afford to transfer cybersecurity through their balance sheets or insurance, ‘carrots’ will be needed by government. Cyber is a risk that necessitates a relationship between the public and private sector. One that requires ownership, accountability and responsibility if we are to protect national security, Intellectual Property (IP), competitive advantage and the digital products and services that have enabled our way of life.

We discuss the approach to address the above through our papers at www.augustagrp.com (OUR WORK), the need for solutions that address the 95% problem and support for small business. The use of common harmonized cyber standards that have the flexibility to support willing ‘buyers’ and ‘sellers’, and regulation to enforce accountability and responsibility. Using harmonized cybersecurity standards and community cloud to deliver appropriate cybersecurity risk transfer. Risk transfer that boards can oversight and assure nationally and internationally.
