We proposed the use of community clouds for DoD Prime contractors to secure defense CUI and IP, in our Augusta Plan in 2021. Primes could deploy community cloud across a weapon system supply chain, alongside the deployment of CUI security under DFARS 252.204-7012 (www.augustagrp.com). The big advantage of sovereign clouds or community clouds is they provide a single solution for data security, to the highest possible security standards and better manage resilience. The down side is that the management of security and resilience becomes a weakness should it fail and implementation is a challenge. But no more so than an organisation going to the cloud on its own.
As an example this approach would be beneficial for the U.S healthcare sector at present. The use of Sovereign or Community clouds to protect health data following a subscription model would be a win for all sides.
