Uber is having a difficult year with cyber, coming at a time when the Uber CSO is facing legal action, a data breach earlier this year and now what appears to be a supply chain hack. A hack that targeted Teqtivity a supplier of Uber that provides the IT Asset Management Mobile Device Management (MDM) platform used by Uber and Uber Eats.
MDM is a powerful tool in that it enables the identification and location tracking of IT assets. In this case one wonders if it is being used to identify and track all the assets the Uber and Uber Eats organisations, staff and contractors use. If that is the case then it is a tool that could contain comprehensive amounts of organizational and personal data.
If Teqtivity source code has been compromised one hopes that it is not used to identify further vulnerabilities. The product looks to offer comprehensive integration across access management, DLP, asset forensics, device configuration and security protocols. In the case of Uber one hopes that these types of data have not been compromised.
