Another interesting story from Australia that relates to cyber.
The latest drone to roll of the production line at Chinas Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC) called the FH-97A looks remarkably similar to Boeings MQ-28 Ghost bat. The Ghost Bat was developed by Boeings Australian subsidiary for the Royal Australia Airforce. This raises the questions about IP theft and the protection of classified and controlled unclassified Information (CUI), as required by DoD DFARS.
Global DIB contractors are required to conform to DFARS 252.204-7012 and NIST SP 800-171 for the protection of CUI. With the threat of contract penalties, in the worst case losing a contract. With the U.S DoD CMMC program due to start next year. One wonders how Australian companies will obtain a certificate of CMMC compliance?
We wrote extensible about DFARS and CMMC here www.cmmc-eu.org . The blog contains the background of why DFARS and CMMC, and the transition from DFARS 7012 to include DFARS 7019 and 7020 ahead of CMMC in 2023. A requirement for DoD Primes and their subcontractors.
Irrespective DFARS 7012 has been a requirement since 2017, and has been tested in court under the False Claims Act.
