Cybersecurity protection for all companies at this time of heightened tensions between East and West is important. We know the impact of cyber on critical national infrastructure through ransomware and by extension its ability to transform corporate operations. Recent reports from CISA have demonstrated that information has been stolen from US DoD contractors over the past 2 years

By acquiring proprietary internal documents and email communications, adversaries may be able to adjust their own military plans and priorities, hasten technological development efforts, inform foreign policymakers of US intentions, and target potential sources for recruitment,

Regulations have been in place for over 4 years requiring the global DIB to secure DoD data that have failed (various GAO reports) and as the CMMC 2.0 program demonstrates actions are being taken to improve DoD DIB cybersecurity that will take time to implement. Financial institutions have invested significant amounts of money under regulated frameworks (Basel) to secure their business models. But one fears that a lack of investment in cybersecurity resources including skilled people, hardware and software over the past 10 years across other sectors will make it hard for many companies to shore up their cybersecurity as quickly as required. While others that have implemented cybersecurity practices may find their supply chains are vulnerable, having an equally destabilising effect on their business operations. At the very least companies should aim for some basic cyber hygiene factors.

We have never been blind to the impact of cyber.

The Russian government has used cyber as a key component of their force projection over the last decade, including previously in Ukraine in the 2015 timeframe, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) warned in an online post. The Russian government understands that disabling or destroying critical infrastructure¢â‚¬â€including power and communications¢â‚¬â€can augment pressure on a country’s government, military and population and accelerate their acceding to Russian objectives.
