Ransomware is on the rise and by any measure it is troubling. Cyber stats are difficult to pin down, but the trends are relatively clear. The number of ransomware attacks in 2021 is up on 2020 (with the FT reporting a quadruple in the number of attacks). Average remediation costs have doubled to over $1.85million, cyber insurance premiums spiked 32% to mid year 2021, on the previous year and cyber insurance coverage is down, putting underwriting under pressure.
