A very useful critique by Bloomberg of US cyber legislation S. 2875 (the Cyber Incident Reporting Act of 2021) and‚Â H.R. 5440 (Cyber Incident Reporting for Critical Infrastructure Act) and the role of CISA. With both the ‘carrot and stick’ now on the table for cyber compliance, oversight and assurance.
The legislation that proposes critical industries such as energy companies and healthcare providers, to report cyber incidents to the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA). (https://lnkd.in/dQNq3-ca) Enabling CISA to define the incidents they want reporting and by who. Providing CISA with cyber oversight and reporting of over private sector operators that make up 85% of companies. Legislation that some expect could set the direction of travel for CISA to be a cyber regulator in the DHS, and along-side the DoJ enable regulatory enforcement for failure in cyber security regulation and compliance.
