The Senate Committee for Homeland Security and Government Affairs met on the 23rd September to discuss and receive update on the Protection of Federal and Critical Infrastructure Systems. The video is important it provides an update on cybersecurity and the challenges facing Federal government. It has a clear FISMA theme, discussing the failure of Federal Government to adopt FISMA across 8 key agencies and plans to update the regulation.

Cyber risk management and cyber Supply Chain Risk management are a priority for Federal Government. I expect that we will see a move in that direction and away from controls based programs.

The Committee heard from Chris Inglis the Nation Security Director, Jane Easterly the Director leading CISAs cyber programs and Chris Derusha the Federal Chief Information Security Officer. Who outline their plans for the management of cybersecurity across Federal Government.

FISMA is required by law and defines the cyber risk management framework to be adopted by Federal Agencies, including the DoD.
