At a recent event Ellen Lord, the former undersecretary of defense for acquisition and sustainment and Christine Michienzi, CTO for the Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Industrial Policy discussed the vulnerability of the supply chains. With tighter defence supply chain control not equating to exclusive domestic production, as long as standards are met.

In a very interesting dialogue they highlight the US has relied to heavily on its supply chains in a time of extreme crisis. But onshoring is not the way forward. International partners play an important role is national security, with Ms Lord stating that ¢â‚¬Å“The defense industrial base is the nexus of economic security and national security¢â‚¬Â.

Discussing CMMC, Ms Michienzi reiterated the impact of cyber security within supply chain security. With CMMC being modified, with plans to continue its roll-out. As the article points out, supply chain security for the US will amongst other things depend on adherence to standards.
