The Australian Government has launched a public consultation aiming for regulatory reforms to increase investment in business cybersecurity. Including setting clear cyber minimum security expectations; increased transparency and disclosure; and protecting consumer rights.

The proposals set a clear direction for cyber regulation and corporate responsibility.
1. Introducing enforceable minimum cybersecurity governance standards
2. New mandatory cybersecurity risk management obligations for businesses.
3. Reform of related legislation, such as the‚ Privacy Act 1988‚ (Privacy Act), to create clear, consistent and enforceable cybersecurity rules that apply to all Australian businesses.

It is another example of cyber regulation directed at business, to enforce defensive cybersecurity through regulation.
