Being held accountable and responsible for ones actions is important. As the Deputy General Manager of Operations Risk and Cyber for Mizuho Corporate bank some years ago I well remember the passion of my Japanese colleagues in managing all aspects of risk. My team had to raise incident reports if we miss booked (AND REVERSED OUT) transactions of ANY value, with any consequential impact however small. Creating a high quality transactional environment, with its own unique challenges.
The banking IT environment is complex, dealing with huge volumes of trade and personal transactions, a mix of high volume low complexity and low volume high complexity transactions. Taking accountability and responsibility for the actions from the top is the right thing to do. No matter how complex the operation.
