Could FISMA be getting a makeover, following recent cyber attacks across the US? FISMA is an Act which you hear little about. But is having a profound impact on cybersecurity and cyber risk management through the Federal Risk Management Framework (RMF).

The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee was briefed on Tuesday 11th May on the SolarWinds hack, and the challenges that Federal Agencies are having complying with their legal obligations and FISMA. Including failures to report the incident and a lack of skills in highlighting the seriousness of the attack.

Preventing a quick response to the hack and soliciting a serious response from the committee…..ommissions…..as required by law, ¢â‚¬Å“frankly prevents Congress from conducting effective oversight,¢â‚¬Â ¢â‚¬Å“While agencies may be meeting the letter of the law, theyre not meeting the intent of the law.¢â‚¬Â

For those National and International Defence contractors, who have not heard of FISMA. It will be felt through the adoption of the DoDs RMF and DFARS.
