Could Europe (that includes the UK) find itself isolated, sitting on its own between the U.S and Russia, with little in the way of security. With Russia focused on a hybrid war in the EU and a new U.S regime.European defence analysts worry that a US military pullback from Europe would encourage Russian aggression. In a recent book, Keir Giles of Chatham House argues: “The withdrawal of America’s military backing for Nato is the surest possible way of turning the possibility of Russia attacking beyond Ukraine into a probability.”Here in lies a problem, countries like France and the UK are heavily indebted. Do they have enough money to spend on defence and will German relax provisions against deficit financing. As a further consideration, what does this all mean for cybersecurity for the UK? The EU is moving ahead increasing cyber capabilities across CNI and Finance, U.S agencies are following a similar path, dependent on the incumbent president.Where does the UK stand on public and private sector defense cyber strategy? How will the UK develop nation cyber capabilities to address the obvious gap in its cybersecurity risk management. Especially if its sitting between the U.S, EU and Russia? Let’s also not forget about other nation states who at a minimum are peering into communications networks and digital CNI.@Thaddeus Dziekanowski Brian D.
