The UK National Cyber Security Center (NCSC) has released a plan to help organisations that are struggling with cyber essentials compliance. One accepts that cyber hygiene is critical to cybersecurity risk management. But the picture has changed so much over the past 10 years.

The uptake of cyber essentials by the governments own statistics is poor (https://lnkd.in/et6HM4pE.). One is interested by a statistic in the article. For many years we struggled to properly measure its impact, but now we know; insurance data shows that organisations with Cyber Essential (CE) certification are 80% less likely to make a claim* (note the *). The 2023 government report on cybersecurity makes it clear the challenges the UK faces with cybersecurity (https://lnkd.in/eMQzYTxb).

At a time when partner nations are moving towards cyber regulation, to address the heightened threat that cybersecurity poses to national, economic and social Security. Should we now be considering how we do the same? Cyber requires a whole of society approach and our industry is in danger as our partners raise their cyber standards through regulation, effecting the costs of trade for UK industry.

Has cyber Essentials now had its day?
