Crypto innovation is a good thing, the use of block chain for smart contracts and the development of frictionless payments mechanisms that are not tied to a single currency, has enabled smoother financial transactions. Block Chain has enabled the creation of other asset classes, such as buying and selling of NFTs.
However recent fluctuations in crypto prices and instability in the crypto market has generated allot of concern from regulators including central banks. That also want to create their own forms of digital currency tied specifically to their native currency. Has recent instability created the ‘stick’ to regulate crypto currencies?
In this instance the IMF raises concerns of the impact of crypto asset stability, financial flows in emerging markets and the correlation between crypto fluctuations and those of other traded assets.
