Cyber is a risk which has developed over the past 10 years from an extreme loss event, to one much closer to an expected than unexpected loss. Which is leading to increased regulatory oversight with the DoDs CMMC program, SoX, Basel III the SECs ESG regime. All of which is adding to the regulatory burden on global supply chains and manufacturers.
With hackers, regulators and shareholders all having skin in the game, manufacturers are in a difficult position. They have to decide how to absorb the top and bottom line costs of compliance, cyber risk management and cyber remediation in the event of a hack. Manufacturing companies require the flexibility to address compliance requirements and protect their balance sheet.
The NIST CSF Manufacturing profile provides a flexible solution, addressing the gaps in governance, implementation and risk management of NIST SP 800-171, whilst mapping to 171. Giving the flexibility for Defence contractors to meet CMMC, publicly traded companies achieve ESG (cyber is a material risk to be reported to the SEC) and FISMA, requiring federal government to adopt a risk based approach to decision making.
