Cyber attacks are ranked as the 2nd highest concerns for doing business globally in 2019. Behind a fiscal crisis and ahead of employment concerns and energy price shocks.
For European and North America countries cyber is the number 1 risk and number 2 for East Asian and Pacific countries. Whilst it does not feature in the top 10 for the Middle East and Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean and South Asia. Which to me represents a digital maturity divide and a focus on more pressing issues such as fiscal crisis, employment, natural disasters and regional tensions.
But cyber is once again up there as a top concern for countries which contribute significant amounts to the global GDP. There is also a faint link between cyber and other global risks for example ‘Energy Price shocks’ and ‘Fiscal Crisis’. Recent events in Saudi have demonstrated that the price of oil is sensitive to catastrophic events and the escalations between the US and Russia over cyber and power networks demonstrates this.
This is well worth a read from a quality source and sets cyber risk as a global issue. A more immediate issue for developed countries but one which will impact developing and underdeveloped countries as globalization takes hold and current more pressing risks are managed.
